David Penberthy

David was the Editor of the Sunday Mail prior to joining FIVEaa. No stranger to the FIVEaa audience, he was heard every morning in breakfast with his popular weekly editorial segment.

David grew up in Adelaide’s southern suburbs and started out studying law, but abandoned his degree in 1990 to edit the Adelaide University student newspaper “On Did” where he developed a love for journalism.

He joined the Advertiser as a cadet journalist in 1992 and David spent his first few years as education reporter, industrial reporter and state political reporter. In 1999, David moved to Sydney to join The Daily Telegraph as State Parliament Bureau Chief, a position he held for three years before his appointment as Chief of Staff, which soon lead to his position as Editor.

In 2010 David set up the opinion site before becoming Editor in Chief of news.com.au. David was the Editor of the Sunday Mail from 2012 until he commenced on FIVEaa’s breakfast show. David still contributes weekly national columns to News Corp’s The Advertiser, The Sunday Mail and interstate newspapers and has appeared on Network Ten’s Studio Ten.
